I'm at a very weird point in my training right now. Hours are ramping up, and I'm getting about 85-90% of my workouts done. I'm feeling strong - especially on the bike. As I rode last night, I watched my watts hover at a place I struggled with last year - and my HR was in low Z2. And as I did my run off the bike, I had my momentary transition niggles, but I settled in and got it done - and felt STRONG. But, I've been sequestered to the treadmill for so long, I'm feeling like my run is suffering. Well....I just don't really know where my run is at right now - and that freaks me out a bit. I went out earlier this week for my long run - in inches of fresh show - and my paces just.....sucked. Is there a multiplier that will help me feel better about this run?? I'm totally jonesing for a warm, outdoor run so I have a sense of where I'm at.
Life is busy, hence the 85-90% completion. But what can you do?? Take last night for instance. I started my workout at 7pm, was done by 9:20pm, ate dinner, then worked until 1:30am. Ugh. I'm having to really fight the balance. I feel soooo good when my work and training align, but when something is off kilter, I just get really frustrated.
I really need to get my blog design updated to reflect all of the new 2011 Trakkers sponsors!!! I'm super pumped about this season. 2 new Rev3 races I haven't done before - Portland and Cedar Point! I'm bummed I won't be at Knoxville and Quassy, but I have this little 140.6 race in the middle......
Speaking of that race - there's a high possibility that some of my family from Texas will be in attendance to cheer me on. I haven't seen most of this family in YEARS. I've been able to reconnect with them via FB and it's been quite special.
Oh....and an upcoming trip to Kenya for work? W00t! So excited about this. Expect lots of pictures!!

NO FREAKING ALLOWED!! Everything will fall into place and you will be rocking and rolling in no time....with more sleep I hope!! Can't wait to see photos from the trip. We have soooo many pics of lion cubs!!
85-90% is pretty darn solid! Good to hear you are doing well on the bike because this IMTX bike course is tougher than everyone seems to think.
Ugh... balance. I know how that can be! :( You're doing great if you can get 85-90% done!
And that is super excited about the trip to Kenya! Awesome!
Balance is so tough!! Way to get it done. SO cool about your trip to Kenya!! Can't wait to see the pictures.
Glad you are feeling strong on the bike and run!! You are going to have a great year! Balance is always tough, but you'll get it figured out!! :D Can't say I love your race schedule since it looks like I wont get to see you unless I can make it to Cedar Point :(
Kenya?!? that's an amazing opportunity!! Very cool, can't wait to see your pictures!
Ok so I totally hear you. Running in the snow, slush, etc even with those dumb yaktrax ( which are still not normal!) it is so hard to get any sort of rhythm. I went to mexico for a week and bingo. I was running and seeing paces I thought i should see. Not super fast but still the HR and pace seemed to be where i "thought" i should be. Have faith, it will happen when you get some firm footing Rachelle. We just need to have it STOP SNOWING!!
I am jealous of your TX race, I cant wait to hear about it.
Unless your a pro triathlete, 85-90% completion might as well be 100% completion in my book. Nice job. I'm sure once the weather clears up you'll start to see your run pacing improve. It only gets warmer from here on out, right?
Oh, and I am bummed that I won't be seeing you in Quassy this year. I need to figure out how to add more Rev3 races to my schedule...
I'm with you at the 85-90% completion. Life gets BUSY.
I am trying to turn around my schedule to get my workouts in first thing in the morning.
Hey if Jeff says it is pretty good, I feel validated. Go with it. ;-)
I have been loving the pictures on facebook. You have a lot on your plate, so it is important to rest!
Hi there.....I'm actually your neighbor (Jill) we have the two big barking dogs (huskie and bulldog). I wanted to let you know that I have started making bottle cap necklaces and key chains and have a bunch of different running, cycling, swimming, and triathalon themed ones available if you or any of your fellow tri friends are intersted. You can see some pic examples on my facebook page under "My Little Ponytails" or contact me directly at pjmcilhon@yahoo.com :)
I hope your travels are going well!
I'm super excited about IMTX, I'll be volunteering on the bike course, I can't wait to see you!
Hopefully you'll get a break in the Iowa weather soon. Keep up the great work and I hope you found your balance.
I'm not sure what Jeff is talking about. The IMTX bike course is AWESOME. I have been riding those roads since 2001 and they are beautiful. You will love riding through the trees of the Sam Houston Forest. Yeah, there are hills but nothing like Canada or St. George. I overheard some dude at the half way point gas station on the course this last week compare it to IMLou. The wind may be the issue and there are spots where there is going to be full sun.
Can't wait until you can come and give the course a go at it!
